You need one and (in most cases) two to three completed documents when requesting a grant: an Application, Abstract, or a Grant Proposal.
1. Application: It is usually a form you can request and receive from a potential funder. Most private foundations and virtually all Federal Government agencies have these readily available online. It will come with a set of guidelines to walk you through the process;
2. Abstract: This is a summarized version of the Grant Proposal. It should include a brief concise outline summarizing your needs;
3. Grant Proposal: If you are requesting $10,000 or more, download the guidelines (program announcement) and application. Follow all directions precisely. Pay special attention to "reviewer questions" and include the question number and the question. A proposal is a comprehensive document that goes into much more detail and depth, regarding your project and need for funding.
