Frequently Asked Questions

Introduction

Every week GrantsEvaluators receives questions about Grants.  Examples of questions we receive are “Can you help me get Free Money?” “Where can we get an SBIR/STTR grant to develop our technology?” “How do we apply for grant funding with the federal government for our community-based program?” and “How do we go about finding funding for our youth initiative program?”

The answer to those questions are listed below, and we’d like you to take a moment to scroll down and read them.  First, however, we have a few questions of our own for you.

• Are you a funding researcher?
• Do you write grant proposals every day?
• Are you an expert at this type of work?
• If you are, do you need help to get your work done, faster, quicker, better?
• If not, why would you try to do the work yourself?
• Would you try to repair your car engine, fix a busted water pipe, do a root canal, or heart
surgery…on yourself?

Think about it…we at GrantsEvaluators are online, research grant money every day, because it’s what we do all day long…for clients like you.

Q:  Who Can Apply for a Grant?

It depends on what your needs are…..many late night TV shows talk about “free cash grants for individual use”, but we have never seen these types of grants.  Don’t waste your time.  There are definitely grants but they have very different criteria.  Here are a few types:

• Nonprofit and Community Groups
• Educational Institutions
• State and local Governments
• Health Care Organizations
• Small Businesses
• Minorities
• Women
• Entrepreneurs
• And others!

Q:  What Kinds of Programs Can Qualify?

• Community Development
• Technology Research and Development
• Housing for Low Income
• Drug Prevention and Treatment
• Job Training
• Small Business Development
• Women in Business
• Health Care
• Education/Scholarships
• Food Programs
• Education Resources
• AIDS Assistance

Q: For What Uses are Grants Given?

• Health Care:  such as medical research; construction of facilities; programs to conquer the spread of disease, etc.

• Education:  such as funds for adults to further their education; for pre-school and nursery school education; for operational expenses for educational programs in primary and secondary schools; for higher education programs, etc.

• Non-profit Causes:  such as community development programs; development of environmental programs and facilities to enhance healthy living.

Q: Do I Need Good Credit to Get a Grant?

Grants eligibility criteria do not consider individual credit status.  The main requirement is that you have a legitimate need for the money… that your project is real… and the outcome of your project will have a benefit for the constituent it was designed for.

Q: What is a Private Foundation?

• A Foundation can be described as a nonprofit, non-governmental organization with a principle fund or endowment of it’s own.

• A Foundation is organized for many reasons, mainly to fund a worthy cause.

• Foundations are exempt from taxes.  However, in order to retain this this status a foundation must, by law, give away at least 5% of it’s total assets every year.

• Every Foundation is different and have different missions to support.  GrantsEvaluators can help you determine which foundation best fits your needs.

Q: What are GrantsEvaluators Fees?

• Due to the wide range of services and the level of time and effort involved, our fees range anywhere from $750 on up.

• Let us discuss your special project or need and let you know what our fees would be for you.

• We’ll tell you exactly what your total fees will be for our grant writing services…and we never have any hidden charges or surprises at the end.

Q: Do You Work on Contingency or for a Percentage of the Grant?

No!  In keeping with the ethical principles of professional fundraisers, GrantsEvaluators does not accept compensation based on a percentage of grant funds raised.
